In this video we unbox and overview the new Aputure AL-MX LED Continuous Video Light, and compare it to the older Aputure AL-M9.
The Aputure AL-MX is more powerful than any other light of its size. It features 128 SMD LED bulbs into a credit card sized light panel. With both CRI and TLCI ratings of 95+ and a wide beam angle of 120° that outputs 3200lux at 0.3m this mini led panel packs a real punch!
The AL-MX features a five step adjustable colour temperature ranging from 2800-6500k, unlike its predecessor the AL-M9 which only had daylight rating of 5600k. This allows for more creative lighting applications with the AL-MX.
It's compact, durable and made from an aircraft grade aluminium. It features a heat sink that allows for efficient heat dissipation and it's built to last for years in all kinds of conditions. It also features a 1/4"/20 thread and universal ball head cold shoe mount allowing for versatile mounting options to light stands, camera cages, camera hot shoes, gimbals and more.
The AL-MX also features an built-in lithium polymer rechargeable battery which can be charged via USB Type-C plugged directly into an AC outlet or using a portable battery pack. It lasts an average of 1 hour at full power or 4 hours at it's lowest power setting. In addition, features a Boost mode which allows the light to go above 30% of maximum brightness when you need that additional burst of light. Capable of operating at 60-second intervals, boost mode gives filmmakers one more option for when "the brightest ever" still isn't enough.
It's perfect to use as a key or fill light and also perfect for run-and-gun setups as it can function as an on-camera light or mounted on a light stand.
Overall the Aputure AL-MX really packs a punch for its size and is a perfect addition to any lighting kit.
